Food Disparities of MedEq will be partnering with Gleaners Food Bank’s Cooking Matters Program. Cooking Matters is a groundbreaking nutrition education program that connects low-income individuals and families with food by teaching them how to prepare healthy, tasty meals on a budget. Prior to working with our program, volunteers attend a 3 hour training and observe a current class session. Each volunteer commits to a 6 week course series, using provided Cooking Matters curriculum. Classes are held mornings, afternoons and evenings at the same time each week and are two hours per session. For more information visit http://www.gcfb.org/cooking_matters.
This event will be a training session on March 11, 2016 in the Shiffman Library on Wayne State’s Medical Campus, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
This is a long term volunteer commitment. The knowledge and experience you will gain from this program will be useful for the rest of your life, and you will be better educating others and yourself about the food disparities that plaque Detroit residents. Help make a difference and sign up to be a volunteer!
